Discussion on Creativity
I think this article is super interesting. I have always found research on how the brain works to be quite fascinating so this is no different. I do have a few thoughts on specific quotes from the article.
"Creativity involves a complex interplay between spontaneous and controlled thinking"
I think this is such a unique way to put it. When I am beginning to create something film related, I usually start based on an idea I have. I can practically hit play on it in my mind, but then when it comes to writing it down and creating it, I have a harder time and have to put more energy into it.
"People who did better on this task also tended to report having more creative hobbies and achievements"
I think this is pretty interesting, but also kind of self explanatory when I look at it. People who use their minds/creative side are used to using that side of the brain compared to others. Just like the more you practice a sport, the better you'll become.
"An interesting feature of these three networks is that they typically don't get activated at the same time"
I find this to be super interesting as it relates to mental health or anxiety more specifically. In the article, it says people who tend to be more creative are more likely to have these different networks interconnect. My question about that is- do people with anxiety (who are constantly using their brains to think, and even overthink/get overstimulated) also have an interconnection between the different networks?
-For reference, The networks are- default (daydreaming, imagining), executive control (focus/control), and salience (switching mechanism- alternating between the two)
